Caboose Hobbies is definitely worth doing. Take your list of
long-sought-after parts; their stock's excellent; store's about the size of
a small supermarket.
Went 2 years ago and drove down to Durango to ride the D&S; 52 miles uphill
behind steam, sometimes double-headed. Most excellent ride, even if tourist
hotels are sprouting up right behind the roundhouse.
The ghost of the narrow gauge at Alamosa was also interesting.
If you're there in July, check into getting seats on the Denver Post
Cheyenne Frontier Days excursion, pulled by UP steam. www.cfdtrain.com It's
pricey, but a class act, and no one cares if you hang out the vestibule the
entire trip.
