Good Morning Gary,
Thank you for your prompt and informative response to my request for information regarding the diagrams/drawings of the Bluefield, West Virginia yards and the Pounding Mill, Virginia yards.
I will apply to the N&WHS Archives for the materials and I must also join the Society.
I grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia from 1945 thru 1962. Nearly all of my neighbors were N&W employees.
I rode the Powhatan Arrow frequently during the late 1940''s right up until the end of the steam era in the late 1950's. My last ride behind the 611 was a "Fan" excursion trip from Kansas City to Moberly,Missouri with my wife. We had a fantastic time of it and I got to reacquaint myself with the the very same Conductor who used to chase me out from between the cars when the train was in motion. Mr."Catfish" Hunter was surprised that I still recognized him. I have a very high degree of visual recall, but not quite a perfect photographic memory...it is a handy quirk. In any case,I want to thank you again for your assistance in directing me to the research materials that I am seeking.
Where should I send the request and payment for the materials I want to purchase?
Cordially,
David C.Braum dcbraum at yahoo.com

The N&WHS has the large blueprint of the layout of Bluefield Yard (about
36"
x 8 feet or so) that we have offered for a sale a number of times some years
ago. You can re-order it by sending a request to Archives at nwhs.org and
asking for it specifically. We'll print up a special order for you.
As to the other drawings necessary to illustrate the Right of Way from
Bluefield to Pounding Mill, the N&W created valuation drawings on D size
paper that encompassed about a mile and a half of track from a yard limit to
the next yard limit at the mile plus increments. These drawings show the
mile plus section as a plot.
Unfortunately, the N&WHS does not have all of these drawings available for
the Clinch Valley right now. (Although the archives are constantly
uncovering new materials!)
However, you should consider that some forty miles of track makes for a long
layout even in N scale.

I am new to this list, and to the hobby of Model Railroading.
I have a space for an N - Scale Layout 6 feet wide and 60 feet long. I want
to model from Bluefield,West Virginia to Pounding Mill,Virginia... from the
years 1945 through 1965.
| need correct diagrams showing track layout and structure locations of the
Bluefield and Pounding Mill yards of the Norfolk & Western Railway for the
years indicated above.
Would some knowledgeable Modler please reply with directions to a resource
where I can obtain this material?
If one of the List - Subscribers currently has this material, I will pay for

Thank you for the anticipated courtesy of a reply.

Received my N&WHS mag and really enjoyed the RS36 article. Just a note
that the Hundman drawing is incorrect for the low nose versions for as
the NKP did not have dynamic brakes as the drawing shows. Please take note of
this if you are going to model the RS36.
