It's a good book (107 pages).  Covers all the "operational " periods of the Railroad and has a few later cars roosters.  It has a lot of pictures from 1940's to the "end", of Southern, A&D and NFD motive power and rolling stock.  Also has photo's of stations, etc.  I have found all of Mr. Griffin's books to be pretty good. I think the N&WHS sells the revised version.

Harry and Charlie,
Thanks for the information on the A&D.  Now I've got another "project".
Charlie, what do you think about "The Atlantic and Danville Railway Company" by William Griffin?  I've been thinking about getting a copy.
Thanks,
Chuck.

Chuck,
Went back and looked at some copies of ICC Valuation Reports I have for that time period.  They showed the following for the A&D;

Used by the Southern, Owned by the Lessor Companies:
Atlantic & Danville
    20 Locomotives
    443 Freight Cars
    17 Passenger Cars
    66 Work Cars

But they did not indicate in the breakdown of equipment the types of freight cars!

Chuck,

I have a copy of "The Atlantic and Danville Railway Company" by William Griffin.  During the time period you are interested in, the A&D was under lease to the Southern (1899-1949).   I took a look at my copies of "The Official Railway Equipment Registers" for 1919 and 1926 and they refer you to the Southern for the A&D.  A review of those listings only show narrow gauge equipment, for the Claremont Branch of the A&D, as far as equipment lettered for the A&D goes.  They do however, show equipment lettered for the Danville and Western also under lease to the Southern at that time.

Gentlemen,
I am in the processing of modeling Durham NC, 1915 - 1925.  Is the A&D appropriate for that time period? I would like to increase the variety of rolling stock that would be seen on the Durham Beltline and I am unfamiliar with the Atlantic & Danville's history.
Thanks,
Chuck Stewart
