BENCHWORK HEIGHT

One more suggestion. set up a piece of wood or styrofoam that is like a module.
Maybe 2 ft x 4 ft. (or better yet, make it as wide as you plan most of your layout to be)

Lay some track on it. Even if just temporary.
Put trains on it, re-rail said trains.
Place a building on it.
stick some trees into the styrofoam.

See what works for you.

 Hello All
 
A topic sure to get a varied response (!); what do y'all feel is the optimal height for benchwork? Kalmbach book says 38".  Specific application is a (mostly) shelf layout.  Ceiling height is a bit limited, about 6'6" (remodeled basement).
 
Any thoughts welcome!
