N&W 2-8-0 #6 at Roanoke - a question or two

Actually a G1, although the visible differences are slight. Boiler pressure
appears to have been the basic difference. Number 6 was one of four G1's
which had run for a time on the Virginia-Carolina (later N&W), where they
received numbers 4 through 7. When they became N&W engines again in 1920,
they kept their VC numbers. 6 and 7 ended up working out of Bluefield for
use on the Honaker branch of the Clinch Valley line. The tenders were not
the ones they were built with (possibly hand-me-downs from M1's). Twin #7 is
at Bluefield City Park, and could use some tender loving care. Jim

#6 is a Class G steam locomotive. Go to "Search Our Archives" on the nwhs
website home page and see the entire listing of drawings for the G Class
loco. Order drawings by sending your list to archives at nwhs.org. The
archives Volunteers will process your request in 6-8 weeks. Prices are on a
link on the drawing list page.
