Alvie,
I can't offer any suggestions here; I will need to shortly venture into this same field of installing sound decoders in some older brass steam locomotives; I am leaning toward using the QSI Quantum Revolution sound decoders; there is a nice write-up about them on the Tony's Trains Exchange web site.

Subject: sound unit for BLI J
Hi all,
I'm looking at upgrading a BLI "stealth-series" J I have to one with a sound unit. So, I am wondering, has anyone here done that and if so any tips or advice you can share? Also, what sound decoder has really good sound for an N&W J? I know LOK-sound offers a chip they say is specific to the J. For speakers I am thinking of using QSI's high-bass speakers.
Alvie
