[NW Modeling List]

Mike, Ron, & Ed:

If you are a Steam-Era modeler, most of what you want has already been done
by the NEB&W folks headed up by John Nehrich.  They are the members of the
RPI Model Railroad Society who model 1953 in New England.  They have
published a multi-volume set of publications on everything Steam Era that
you might consider for model railroading.  One volume NGD-95-2 is 305 pages
of NEB&W Guide to Steam-Era Freight Car Modeling & HO Scale Kits.  My hard
copy is at least a decade old, and they now maintain these online on their
website($5/mo to join).  I use it to tell me what the prototype is for a
certain model kit.  That way if I want to add a freight car from, say, the
Seaboard Line, then I can pick one that is representative of the prototype
used on the Seaboard Line.  They cover all types of freight cars from all
the model manufacturers, even those that are no longer in business (e.g.
Lionel no longer makes HO kits).  These volumes are great reference material
for modelers of the steam era, which is the era that I model.

I do agree with Ron that a N&W modelers' page on the website would be
great.  We should do it like the RPI does, with more than just freight
cars.  Now who will take on that daunting task?  I would be willing to help,
but I am in no way the modeler that should be heading this one up <G>
