Virginian MOW modeling question

I'm putting together a Virginian work train consist in HO, and need to know 
 what the correct color for the car roofs are. The few photos I can find of 
VGN  MOW equipment look like the car roofs are either dirty brown or faded 
and  weathered black. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I've got the 
car  bodies painted MOW gray and ready to decal and am waiting for info on  
the roofs.
