E-3 Whistle?

I lived in the Norfolk area for a few years (1973-75) and talked to several people who had lived there during the steam days. I remember one fellow saying the E-3s (them strange Pennsy fast engines) had the same whistles as the K-2 Mountains. Another guy said they had a nice mellow chime that didn't sound like any other N&W engine. That could have been the original PRR passenger whistle. I always thought they were nice  sounding. whistles.
 
Maybe the one guy saw/heard them before they were modified to N&W standards (new tenders, pilots, markers, etc) and the other guy saw/heard them after the mods?
