Stephen;  All the VGN SB class  0-8-0's had black painted smokebox fronts.  I have one qualification on this statement. I have never seem a photo of #254. So that one could be an exception but I doubt it.  Harold Davenport

I asked this on the other forum and didn’t get any answer. Surely there are Virginians on the forum.

Did the Virginian 0-8-0 have graphite smokebox fronts? I can only find photos of the painted all black. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated .
