I'm not a member of the modeling committee, but I feel that your comment questioning the mention of the announcement on the list by the modeling committee is very unfair.
Greg Davis is Chairman of the Modeling Committee and was also Convention Chairman. This convention took a lot out of all of us who planned and made it happen. Greg also had the longest drive of any of us to and from the convention. We are all volunteers here, sometimes things do not go always as we want, or desire, in addition, Greg, Todd Arnett and myself and others all have full time plus jobs, and sometimes we do need a break after an event.
In addition, the manufacturer wanted a presentation at the convention, but did not want to put out a blanket release, as they are not totally ready to do so, Fred indicated that in his original email as below.
Things will be better, but it takes time to make all things to come together.
To have such an amazing variety of our favorite road(s) equipment in an affordable format is amazing, and it has taken a huge amount of research by Steve to get it there, he has uncovered details that the best detectives would have missed.
In addition to Steve's work on research, this involves a substantial investment by the manufacturer, and I can certainly see why they want to announce it on their own timeframe. The only part of this process the modeling committee has been involved in was in the last few weeks leading to the announcement.
This is not a Society project, the Society has no money involved in the process. It has been kept quiet via the manufacturers request.
I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but be glad it is happening, not complaining because you did not know of it a few days sooner. Production is months off at this point. And there are still a number of details that must be worked out. Steve and I have talked this over multiple times, we are lucky it is happening at all.

I know of not only the amount of time you both have put into the project, but the other resources you have invested as well. Bill and Ken, the owners of Spring Mills Depot, are interested in producing only accurate prototype models. I recently purchased their B&O wagon top covered hopper and it is an exquisite model.

> Given the recent postings regarding the desire for caboose models I’m surprised someone has not mentioned the product announcement made at the convention. Spring Mills Depot (SMD) announced they are going to produce highly accurate HO models of the CF, CG, CH, C2, C-10, C-10a, C-30, and C-30a with paint ranging from as-built to the last N&W block letter scheme. NWHS member Steve Smith and I have been working with this manufacturer for around two years to get to this point, and Steve started the announcement with a summary of the extensive effort that has gone into assembling accurate prototype information. The inspiration for the work came from the Bowers / Brewer caboose book, the rich set of available drawings in the archives, and a personal desire on our part to have models available. SMD plans on having the project details posted to their web site by the end of this month. There will be LOTS of specific models to choose from including most of the roads that obtained second hand N&W cabs. I’m not going to pre-empt the formal product launch on the web site by going into more details here so I encourage you to look for the product to go live on the web soon. While you wait, go check out their B&O cab models, they are stunning!
