Roof Color

Good afternoon,
I’m working on building a couple of station models.  Both will have metal roofs, per photos, and I know the main colors for the stations are white with black trim.  (I’m modeling 1927).  I need to know, though, if the roof colors should be natural metal or if the N&W was coating or painting them?
