I took Phil’s lead and just bought the set from Trainworld. Considering that the round end obs is likely the most difficult car to purchase separately, I figured this set might make a decent “investment”. While I model 1957-62 WV coal fields where the Arrow didn’t run and, by the late 50s was supplemented with baggage and RPO, I think a 7-8 car train is too nice to ignore. I also have a 1978-run Samhongsa J (the last engine my Dad bought) awaiting paint, sound, lights, battery ops gear and a brass doghouse to pull it.

Thanks, Phil.

Trainworld.com in Brooklyn NY appears to have sets and individual NW cars still in stock. Looks like they’re out of NS cars.

I got mine last week and they are beautiful, far better (and a little less expensive) than any of the competitors products.

MTH has released the second run of their HO scale N&W Powhatan Arrow. The first run a few years ago featured a 5 car set with the car numbers ending in 1. This is the other set with the car numbers ending in 2, except for the diner. When MTH did their first run, they also offered diner 492 as a separate car. For this run, the diner in the set is 494/Fredrick J Kimball, and the 493/General William Mahone is offered separately, along with a pair of P3 coaches with different numbers. The other big change is the color of tuscan. I personally felt the color on the first run was a little faded/purple/dull, something. This new run features a richer color that is very close to the factory paint used by Key and Overland on their N&W passenger cars.

MTH has also released the N&W cars lettered for Norfolk Southern, based on excursion and business cars. The diners and #29 coach are accurate, while the others are stand-ins.

The first run of MTH Arrow cars went fast, so I imagine these will, too.
