Genesis Redbird (NW Modeling List)

Personally, I think that if Proto and especially BLI failed to tool
their respective Y's so as to offer other classes, it shows an amazing
lack of foresight. Same goes with BLI and their A, which should have
been tooled so as to offer the earlier versions. Every model company
considering a project should always ask themselves, "What else can we
do with this tooling and how do we design it to allow us to do so?"

I keep wishing someone would do a Y6a, especially with 2156 being in
Roanoke.

I've just recently gotten into the hobby and am concentrating on the
N&W in SW West Virginia in the 40's and 50's. I just happen to live
not far from the office (and showroom for what there is) of Factory
Direct Trains. I was down there this past week to pick up my Class J
(#613) and was talking to the owner Joe about the Y6b. He's a BLI
dealer and believes that the Y6b will come back around before long
since BLI owns the molds for that model. I hope he's right!

When Athearn produced the Redbirds they did the later phase with the
48" fans one on each end and one for dynamic frids. Rd nos were 514
and 521.
At the same time they also produced two bluebird passenger GP9s 502
and 508. 502 had the 36" fans two on each end and I believe a 48" fan
for dynamic grids.
I hope Athearn does indeed do a 2nd run of these as I missed the
first run. I haven't modeled in over 15 years and am just now getting
back into it, just to find I missed most of the models I would like by
a year or few (Atheran Redbirds, BLI Y6b, etc...). If all else fails I
may end up painting my own Redbirds. I just need to get the fuel tank
details and roof detail stuff... But that's another story...

I know that in most cases pre-order does not mean pre-pay.? It depends
upon where you pre-order.

That's very correct. Most hobby dealers that do pre-orders don't
require
pro-payment of even a deposit.
