HO Passenger Cars

Hi Tom,

I’m very partial to the Branchline kits, preferably undecorated as most of the PRR cars are done in a post 1948 scheme. The line is now owned and produced as RTR cars by Atlas, but Atlas made compromises that are likely OK for some but not others. One of my planned projects is the Pullman Plan 3973A 10-1-1 Island Rose, complete with upper berth windows when I figure out just how I’m going to do them.

I think very highly of the Rapido cars as well, which IMHO are probably the best of the currently produced RTR cars, but they are understandably prone to offering phoobies. Again, that is likely OK for some but not others.

My two cents.

Enjoy the season and happy modeling.

Hey folks,

What companies have made HO passenger cars? And which ones are good? I have a few of the Bachmann Spectrum and I'm not that impressed. The couplers definitely sag and the lighting needs to be changed. I also have (as of today) 3 of the Rivarossi which I like a bit more. The Rivarossi seem to need more detailing and lights and are the older cars with brown roofs. Also definitely a darker red. I'm hoping that this is a more accurate red. The Spectrum have the black roofs and are a brighter red. What do you folks like?

Thanks!
Tom Fulton
