Jim Scalecoat paints are sold now by www.minutemanscalemodels.com I bought a spray can of Scalecoat II Brunswick Green and it seemed to work just fine. Be aware that the cost is about double as now they are considered HAZMAT when shipped. My one can cost me around $20. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet....... If you want to match the red on the old AHM/Rivarossi cars, take a look at Scalecoat "N&W Red." To me, it is too dark, and I brighten it with a 2 1/2 to one mix with "ATSF Red." (N&W Red being the 2 1/2); but if you are trying to match the Rivarossi cars, it might be just about dark enough straight out of the bottle. Scalecoat went out of business a year or so back, but somebody bought their stock and is still selling Scalecoat paint.

Hi Tom, I’m very partial to the Branchline kits, preferably undecorated as most of the PRR cars are done in a post 1948 scheme. The line is now owned and produced as RTR cars by Atlas, but Atlas made compromises that are likely OK for some but not others. One of my planned projects is the Pullman Plan 3973A 10-1-1 Island Rose, complete with upper berth windows when I figure out just how I’m going to do them. I think very highly of the Rapido cars as well, which IMHO are probably the best of the currently produced RTR cars, but they are understandably prone to offering phoobies. Again, that is likely OK for some but not others. My two cents. Enjoy the season and happy modeling. Ralph Brown

I have a few of the Bachmann Spectrum and I'm not that impressed. The couplers definitely sag and the lighting needs to be changed. I also have (as of today) 3 of the Rivarossi which I like a bit more. The Rivarossi seem to need more detailing and lights and are the older cars with brown roofs. Also definitely a darker red. I'm hoping that this is a more accurate red. The Spectrum have the black roofs and are a brighter red. What do you folks like? Thanks!Tom Fulton________________________________________
