Hi Frank -

Yes - I was one who made a reservation for the DP PA 4-6-2 but I honestly don't know about the issue of the minimum number of reservations required by DP - you may well be correct there and your indications on price I think is pretty much on the mark, for it was a relatively pricey locomotive by comparison for its day, but then look at some of the prices that are being asked for new models today! It will be interesting to see what the D&RGW P-77, along with the passenger cars is priced at should it proceed - it ought to provide us with a helpful indicator for an updated VGN PA/passenger car pricing. I just wonder whether the OMI MB 2-8-2 had an impact on the proposed DP PA (apart from the lack of reservations) because a few of them appeared to sit around for quite a while on shelves before finally disappearing - try to locate one now at a reasonable price!

I even drew the proposed PA run to the attn. of the N&W/VGN modellers group at that time - but it didn't even raise one comment back - so that didn't bide well for interest in that model.

Meanwhile, I along with others continue the 'hunt' for a model for which we can convert into an acceptable PA unless one miraculously appears out of the blue - but then don't wake me up from my daydream please.

Don't see me getting across to the convention this year, the Aussie dollar has tanked in the last few months to where it now costs us a premium of 60pct to buy the equivalent in USD so even model purchases have now to be approached with caution and in my case 'budget planning'.  

I would love to be at the Virginian Interest Group meeting to partake in the possible discussion of Virginian motive power but as I said earlier that won't happen, so is there a possibility that a brief report could be included in 'The Arrow' - I believe this would be of much interest to others who cannot make the convention?

Clive, if you made reservations for the DP PA (the VGN 4-6-2; not the
Alco passenger diesel), please confirm or contradict my recollections.
DP wanted something like 30 reservations, and the expected price was
in the ball park of $1,700.  ???  I must confess that, given all the
givens, I don't think that there were 30 of us who were about to pay
$1,700 for a Pacific 10 years ago.  And my decreasing memory says that
the three car passenger set would have come in at around $900.

And, yes, over the last 40 years we have been blessed with a
surprising abundance of VGN motive power.  If memory serves when I got
back in the hobby in 1969 there was not one correct Virginian steam
nor electric locomotive.

There is a possibility that review and discussion of Virginian
locomotives might occur at the Virginian Interest Group meeting at the
convention in June.
