What is the issue number of The Arrow that has Jim Brewer’s article on station colors ?
Thanks.

It is not clear what changed in 1946 or 47. Unfortunately all prewar photos seem to be black and white, so it is not clear what was different then. My guess is that the trim was brown and that the late '40's change to cream was a replacement for some sort of "buff". As for brick buildings, the trim was a dark reddish brown, similar to the brown trim on frame buildings. When they went to white trim, there may have been a few buildings that got repainted. I don't remember about the change to green, but it would make sense that trim on repaints was the same. Jim Brewer did an extensive article on station colors in a back issue of the Arrow. I can't disagree with any of his findings.

That’s interesting. I thought cream and brown pre-dated the war. What was the color combination in the thirties? It’s hard to tell from the black and white photos.
What was the pattern for brick buildings? A freight house I’m interested in was built by the Scioto Valley Railroad. Would they have used the same trim color as frame buildings?

Cream and brown started about 1946 or 47. It was followed (briefly) by cream with white trim and then by white with green trim (both sometime in the 1950's)

Thanks,
Yeah my depots are cream and brown. My options are match that or go before/after which sounds fine.
What era was the cream brown installed, and what was after?
Cheers

Whatever were the colors used on frame depots during any specific period, section houses would be painted the same colors. but it varied from time to time, so I would need to know your specific decade. And there would be overlap. when specific structures were not repainted for several years. The Blue Ridge depot is an example. It retained the cream with brown trim long after colors had changed twice.

Hi,
I am building a section foreman's house and some other misc houses for the crew.
Question: what is the history of the colors used to paint them? I am modeling a freelance of either the tug fork or Buchanan branches around the 20's-50's
Would they match the depots?
Cheers,
David Baker
