Ampersand (&) on N&W box cars?

I’ve seen several models of N&W box cars where the name on the car is written out with an ampersand (&), i.e. “Norfolk & Western” and not “Norfolk And Western”, but I don't recall ever seeing a car like this or even a photo of a car with such lettering.
Did the N&W ever use the “&” scheme on box cars, and if so, when?
