 Rick Stone:I know about the Red Ball kit. I did a review of it in the Sep Oct 1987 issue of the Society Newsletter (pre Arrow) It isn't even a proper GKa. That issue also has my write up of my kitbashed GKd (starting from an Athearn '50 box car), together with drawings of the GK and a diagram of the GKd.

The Red Ball kit isn't a GKd it a GKa because it doesn't have dreadnought ends.
 
I even kitbashed the KDEL brake system Kd empty load twp cylinders and reservoirs for the very first convention.
