Well, I agree with you but the fact remains the owner of BLI is a die hard Pennsy fan and there is still a lot of unexplored PRR stuff to be done. Hard to believe but many of the favorite Keystone engines and equipment haven't been produced. With him being a PRR fan and the PRR fan base probably the largest group to shoot at it seems obvious where his priorities are located.
I said before and I'll say it again I'm not impressed with the longevity of the BLI items I've seen so I hope they never produce more N&W for us.
Like so many of us I'd really love to see some N&W steam as well as equipment produced by a quality manufacturer. Lots of money to be made with an M 4-8-0 if nothing else. The CF and some others seems a no-brainer also. How about an M-1 RPO, PG in the variations, S-1, S-2 and so much else.
Every time I see another ad for an F-7, Pig Boy, USRA anything or K4 I just get angry. I have spoken to many manufacturers for many years about this trend and they always respond with the answer they have to sell enough to recoup their investment. OK, I can understand that but seriously how many one of a kind engines/cars can you actually sell to do that? Pennsy S2 turbines? Erie Triplex? Schnable cars? I'm not sure where the truth lies but I have to question some choices and think someone's lying to us.
I know many modelers who are tired of everything being forced down their throats with DCC/sound. For their reasons they still run straight DC/mute equipment but have to add the extra money from their modeling budget for things they have to remove or not use. I don't know anyone who wants smoke units slobbering all over their engines and layout or who wants "radio chatter" from their non-excursion steamers. Just wasted money for the modeler and wasted effort for the manufacturer.
The M should be a great seller due to the zillions of folks experiencing the 475 at Strasburg for the last 20 or so years. Then there's the N&W modelers craving an M. Now throw in the casual modeler of a smaller layout wanting something besides the beautiful Spectrum 2-8-0.
Oh well, we can just hope someday some common sense will prevail in the marketing.
My 2¢.

I'm not sure what the current situation is with NS in getting/giving permission to use its trademarks. Many years ago when I was publications chairman, all we had to do was ask. That is how the various reprints, including Norfolk & Western: A History, came about. The same with the various models that were done.I hadn't heard anything about NS charging a royalty or other fee.
Certainly Broadway LTD has not been hampered in producing Pennsylvania RR locomotives. It seems like a new PRR release every month or two. Many years ago at the NMRA National Train Show in Philadelphia I spoke with a representative of Broadway. They had already produced the Y6b and I suggested they could use the same mechanism and do the Y-5, Y-6 and Y-6a boilers. I know Harold Davenport also suggested this to them but obviously nothing has come of it.
It is my understanding that the PRRT&HS Modeling committee gathers together all the necessary documentation and travels to Florida to meet with the folks at Broadway to promote a new locomotive. I have even heard a representative of the factory in China is often in attendance. Of course, it seems like anything with "PRR" on it sells well.

So they upset a few "foamers". Where do you suppose that ranks in the NS box of concerns - compared to abandoning the city and state that supported and nurtured them for over 100 years? :-/
If anything, they should look at models as recruiting... like the Navy does with movies like Top Gun and the sequel. Charge a reasonable fee for their art department to approve/modify the use of their trademark, and then move on. For NS to chase $1,500 or $5,000 or whatever amount we can imagine.... that amount is a rounding error.
Community goodwill seems to be forgotten once companies grow beyond their region.

Broadway Limited announced a CF about 10 years ago, but it was cancelled. I can't remember if it was due to lack of orders or if it was caught up in some of those tooling theft lawsuits. I have to believe that an N&W CF would sell at least as well as a Missabe or C&O wood caboose like Walthers has produced. Of course, N&W would seem to be an obvious choice for Athearn Genesis GP9's, but other than one run of Redbirds and some ex-NKP or Wabash units, I don't think they've done any. Manufacturers often seem to have a "playlist", and N&W is seldom on it. How else do you explain SP and UP 4-8-2's, PRR decapods and atlantics, and C&O streamlined hudsons, but no N&W M, S1/S1a, or streamlined 4-8-2? Marty Flick

Anybody got any guesses why no model manufacturer hasn't offered a
reasonably accurate, plastic, steam-era N&W caboose in the past 50
years?
Seems like they would only sell about a 1000 of them in the first year.
I can't even remember how many SMD cabs I reserved. But it was/is a lot.
