Charlie, I vaguely remember hearing they claimed not enough interest in the project. I find that a lot of BS but what do I know.
On another line.....many posters have mentioned the fine wooden/metal Craftsman kits by Quality Craft/Gloor Craft and the newer laser kits by AMB. Those are fine but many modelers aren't into these type kits any longer and want injection molded cars. There is a need for them, obviously.
I've given up on ever seeing these SMD cars and have been buying Balboa/Westside CF cars. They look good enough to me and the prices are usually not terrible. I even have some of the metal cars (CH?) even though the sides are wrong.
I gave up counting rivets many years ago.

I just looked back at my files and see that the N&W CF Caboose project dates back to August and September of 2006. There were to be two versions…one with a vertical brake wheel and one with a horizontal. The initial production was for four roadnumbers but the research was gathered for many more.
I have no idea of why the project was canceled.
They are currently working on an N Scale Y-6B and have done plenty of N&W / NS diesels so I don’t think the NS fees are an issue.
I am no longer doing work for BLI and have no further information to share.

Maybe they didn't get past the charges and are paying the fees and just passing them off to the customers?

Just a thought, then how did SMD get past the charges? What did they do that BLI didn't do of think of!

I was speaking to the owner of Broadway Limited about an M and other N & W engines and he stated the following. I Quote Here! Until NS gets their $%& Together and end the crazy charge they have imposed for doing and NS or N & W Engine Broadway will not be doing anything new. This is a crappy situation.

Broadway Limited announced a CF about 10 years ago, but it was cancelled. I can't remember if it was due to lack of orders or if it was caught up in some of those tooling theft lawsuits.
I have to believe that an N&W CF would sell at least as well as a Missabe or C&O wood caboose like Walthers has produced. Of course, N&W would seem to be an obvious choice for Athearn Genesis GP9's, but other than one run of Redbirds and some ex-NKP or Wabash units, I don't think they've done any. Manufacturers often seem to have a "playlist", and N&W is seldom on it. How else do you explain SP and UP 4-8-2's, PRR decapods and atlantics, and C&O streamlined hudsons, but no N&W M, S1/S1a, or streamlined 4-8-2?

Anybody got any guesses why no model manufacturer hasn't offered a
reasonably accurate, plastic, steam-era N&W caboose in the past 50
years?
Seems like they would only sell about a 1000 of them in the first year.
I can't even remember how many SMD cabs I reserved. But it was/is a lot.
