Stephen,
The problem with O scale is not that most "are not willing to pay".
It is that the price is very high to begin with! $300+ for one brass
car? Even at the Lionel prices much closer to $100 per plastic car, try
building a nice size coal train or any train for that matter. On top of
that is the fact that O scale equipment is not something that is
regularly kept in stock. It is more along the lines of "buy it now or
lose out"! Again, try building a sizeable coal train all at once! I gave
up a long time ago trying to collect N&W coal cars. Mainly because (1.)
they were not the type of car that I was looking for and (2.) the ones
that were of a passable type were just not that many around when my
wallet could afford them.
Which brings me to the point that...why can't someone manufacture
an affordable N&W steam era caboose?
