The & changed to "and" shortly after WWII when R H Smith learned that the & is an abbreviation, and not a word. As for gold stripes, only the 1023 and 1024 ever had them. They were applied when these two DE's were chosen for the 1946 Powhatan Arrow, and they were removed after the 1949 cars replaced them.

Hi Society,
I've looked at pictures and equipment data. I'm painting a diner, not a perfect match but good enough if it's got a good paint job and lettering.
Does anyone know the story about when the & changed to an "and?" Does anyone know when or if they are supposed to have the gold stripes?
Primer is cured and the Tuscan walls and brown for the roof are next!
Thanks for the help,David Baker
