Hey all,

So, just a quick update on some of the game-related preservation work
Archive.org has been up to recently. This is still mainly dealing with
the Game Movies collections, of which there are the following updates:

- Some NES enthusiasts have started uploading 'speed runs' of many NES
games:

These are made in emulators, and then rendered to MPEG4 so it's easy to
view them, but imho this kind of stuff is excellent for preserving speed
or gaming tactics for the future, especially on obscure games - it's
nice to have a record of all the shortcuts or tricks in visual form.
Normal uploading of other speed runs has also been going on, including
the first speed runs for the new GameCube title Metroid Prime 2:

- We filled in most of the gaps on the Red. Vs. Blue machinima
collection -
http://www.archive.org/movies/movieslisting-browse.php?collection=machinima&cat=red%20vs.%20blue
- meaning that the Archive has the only complete collection of lo-res R
vs. B movies online - go buy the DVDs if you like them, incidentally!

- We still have a bunch of interesting Sega-related game movies from
Phillip Roncoroni awaiting import.

- Henry Lowood at Stanford is just embarking on a new game replay/movie
project, relating to the classic FPS Doom. I'm sure there will be more
about this at a later date.

So, while I'm aware that game-related movies are not necessarily 'the
real thing' as far as actual game data is concerned, the fact that you
can legally make them available still makes them very enticing for me to
work on, in the v.limited spare time that I do have. Thanks again to
everyone who's been contributing.

Regards,
Simon.
