Hey,

As noted before, we said we'd discuss it at some point, and set
guidelines before the project went "public". Notably, I think that
industry related figures, not just developers, but some publishers,
distributors and journalists too, might be relevant. Influencers are
slightly different...

* Developers - make the games, obviously the IGDA's focus is on this
regarding memorials. No argument here ;-)
* Publishers - pay people to make the games, and often do get involved
in production. No arguments here ;-)
* Journalists - videogame journalists I guess. Many have real
friendships with developers, many more are good critics of it or work on
more then just reviews (opinion pieces, interviews, history...), so are
relevant to add. This is obviously a "yes" from most circles of course.
* "Influencers" - Outside the direct production industry - those who do
not directly come up on credits of games I guess! These would include, I
think, other game designers, fiction writers (and genre creators!), and
so forth. Also include here major /players /of games, and figures who
influence it in other ways - videogame lawyers for instance.

Any categories I'm missing? Maybe players and "lawyers, etc." would be a
more formally recognised "industry related" type of category compared to
influencers?

* Industry related and well known figures - Lawyers and consultants,
players, etc.
* "Influencers" - as above

Also; I added Joseph Weizenbaum
<http://www.igda.org/wiki/Memorials/Joseph_Weizenbaum> recently. He
didn't directly make a game (well, maybe he did ^_^ ), but did make
Eliza (huge AI and game influence there), and so academics who make work
that influences (or is built upon for) games should be included too
right? So an academic category too, probably is worthwhile (they don't
get credited in games, but do produce a lot of related work and may be
well known in industry). As said previously, the teachers too, might be
added - such as Dave Arneson.

* Academics - Videogame industry academics, or ones who did related or
influential work.

Some designers and writers would argue for Arthur C. Clarke...I'm not
sure myself, like I said :-) - since it isn't much work, at the moment I
am happy to add him still.

This is certainly an interesting discussion/topic - I am happy we simply
have a short discussion before adding "fringe" people. Certainly I am
not going to go back and list a ton of people who have been dead for
years who had some small influence but were not directly in the
industry, but will be looking at future ones as they occur - is a case
by case basis okay for these? (such as Arthur C. Clarke)

I bow to your greater knowledge in this area of course, and if you want
to head the project, and decide these more personally, all the better.
At the moment it's easy to discuss here anyway for each case!
