[game_preservation] More Classic Games at GDC

Sounds great! I realize I should have probably said 'contribute' rather than
'hang out', but I think my meaning got through...

I have been trying to keep game preservation and history panels going at the
SW/TX PCA/ACA, but they have been holding the conferences at pretty bad
times. The PCA/ACA has Judd Ruggill and Ken McAllister, and of course
myself. While the conference isn't spectacular, I think having venues such
as this to discuss game preservation are a good thing. Maybe PAX East is the
way to go, though you will see a difference in audience makeup - developers
at GDC vs hobbyists and players at PAX. PCA/ACA is, of course, scholars. I
never understand why there doesn't seem to be communication between groups
either - for instance, nobody from film and library studies seems to be
aware of a game preservation panel.

Another thing that comes to mind is maybe we could have a newsletter or
something that includes essays about game preservation and game history that
can be reviewed or given as an example of current research. I just don't
feel that the once-a-year meetings we have are that effective, and that the
list is a little too informal for these matters.
