[game_preservation] Personal stories?

Hi Scott,

This is something we (The Play It Again team) are working on, specifically, preparing an online portal where we'll be seeking memories from the public and others. We are calling it the Popular Memory Archive. It will launch in early October 2013. I'll let the list know when it is live.

In the meantime, we have written a paper on it which will be in the proceedings of the Australasian Interactive Entertainment conference. A draft is at http://academia.edu/3831972/Remembrance_of_Games_Past_The_Popular_Memory_Archive

There's plenty that can be done in this space -- just offering this as encouragement.

Cheers,

Melanie

Scott,
Yes, at least one book, and I think maybe several.
The one I remember was published maybe 5-7 years ago and consisted of a bunch of short essays mostly by writers about how various video games had affected them. It was not an academic project, but a trade book, if I recall correctly. And I can't remember the title or publisher!

Have there been any projects conducted to collect stories about the personal and cultural impact games have had on people?

I've been considering interviewing people and compiling the interviews into a book so that those life changing events are not forgotten. And if similar projects have already been conducted, I would like to contribute.
