Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a good long weekend. Last night I recorded a
Christmas song called 'Dear Santa', and this morning I uploaded it to
my website as this week's free download: <http://music.jwgh.org/freemp3.html
> I hope you enjoy it!

I'm hoping to book some shows in the NYC/northern New Jersey and
Washington areas early this year, so if you've got any contacts in
either of those areas who might be able to help me get a show then
please let me know.

I've had a little break this past week or so, but starting on Sunday
the music starts up again:

Sunday January 3 -- THE EMPIRE REVUE
----------------
WHERE: AS220, 115 Empire Street, Providence, RI
WHEN: 8 pm to 10 pm
COVER: $8

The Empire Revue is a cabaret/variety show which is held on the first
Sunday of every month. It's always a good time, and I hope you can
make it! I'm working on a New Year's Eve-themed song which I'm hoping
will be ready in time -- we'll see!

Monday January 4 -- OPEN MIKE FEATURED ACT
-----------------
WHERE: Everyman, 555 Valley Street, Providence, RI
WHEN: 9:30 pm

This free open mike is run by John Windle, a local singer/songwriter
who is well worth checking out. I like this open mike a lot and go to
it many weeks; recently John's started having featured acts again,
which is another reason to keep an eye on it. Signup starts around
8:30 pm, the open mike will start at 9:30 pm, and I'll probably go on
10 or 10:30ish.

The food at the restaurant is quite tasty, so you may want to arrive a
little early for dinner. The menu's at <http://www.everymanri.com/complmenu.pdf
>, but also ask about their specials!

This will be a 'pass the hat' show.

That's it for next week, but I currently have a couple of other shows
scheduled for January. I'm hoping to add more soon.

Monday January 18 -- SOLO SHOW
-----------------
WHERE: AS220, 115 Empire Street, Providence, RI
WHEN: 9 pm
COVER: $6

This is the first show I've booked for myself at AS220! (I'm not
counting things like the Empire Revue and Songwriters in the Round,
although maybe I should.) I'll be sharing the bill with the West Eddy
Trio, Glasseye, and Jay Gagnon. I hope you can make it!

Saturday January 23 -- GATHERING OF FIDDLERS AND FISHERMEN #11
-------------------
WHERE: the Common Fence Point Community Hall, 933 Anthony Road,
Portsmouth, RI (Directions:
WHEN: 6:30 pm to late
COVER: $12

This is the annual fundraiser for Common Fence Music. It's a full
night of local performers, starting with an irish session and ending
with a series of local musicians, including some fishers and some
fiddlers (and some, like me, who probably don't have a lot of business
being there, but it's fun, so ...) You can bring your own food and
drink, or you can get some homemade chowder and chili at the kitchen
there.

Celtic fiddler Tiffany Rozenas will be hosting, and there will be lots
of other great performers, although they haven't posted the list yet.
Jon Campbell frequently does some songs, so that's one act I'm looking
forward to.

It's a fun thing and worth checking out! I believe it's sold out for
the past few years, so get your tickets in advance. A link to order
tickets, plus some more information and pictures, can be found at <http://www.commonfencemusic.org/fandf.html
>.

Photos from last year's show (including a couple of me) can be seen at
<http://www.commonfencemusic.org/fandf2009/haller.html>.
