You shouldn't need to install a Haskell compiler (though this has gotten
pretty easy with the Haskell Platform). Pandoc has binary installers for
Windows and OSX (intel):

If you use linux, your package manager
probably has it.  (It's in debian/fedora/arch/gentoo/freebsd.)
