Well,
I didn't think my two cents worth would be needed here, but just for the offering; The crossing at Callahan is an old railroad grade. I surmised this, and confirmed it with fellow rail historian and cartographer Mr. Thomas Blevins. He also has a great map of many abandoned lines in the area, including the Laurel Ry, and he is still working on his map. It is interesting to note that the Hassinger lumber compay's line tied into the Konnarock branch near Konnarock and went southwest toward the VC and crossed it at Callahan's. As to why there is no mention of the two in Damascus, I would most certainly believe it would have been due to yard limits. There's a whole lot of history in Damascus that is not very well know. It used to be a boom town to say the least.
Ben Blevins

UNFORTUNATELY; this begs another question. Although this may explain the grade crossings at Callahan Crossing, indeed, with the White Top Ry., and at Laureldale with the Laurel Ry., then,

HOWCOME; two grade crossings at Damascus with the Laurel Ry. are not indicated by any "letter abbreviations", but mentioned only in the "Special Instructions"? Perhaps because Yard Limit rules were in effect "approaching Damascus".
