SOS:
I suspect Ben Blevins is correct -- Rule 93 eliminated the need to show
the "X" at Damascus. Using Radford Div. Time Table #18 (04/30/22) as
a source, it mentions TWO crossings in the Special Instructions "At
Damascus,
near old Douglas Mill ( Laurel Railway) and "At Damascus, near Extract
Plant (Laurel Railway)". Louis Newton's RAILS REMEMBERED (Vol 3) has
a map (08/20/15) which shows a crossing of the Laurel Railway south of
Damascus on the main line, yet no "X" appears for this crossing. It is
interesting to note that both the Laurel and the Beaver Dam RR shared
N&W's turn table at Damascus As noted by LMN, Nos.201-202 had to
travel a remnant of the former Beaver Dam RR to arrive at the depot in
greater metropolitan Damascus. Beaver Dam trains had the right to use
the Abingdon Branch Beaver Creek Dam to Laurel Avenue UNDER YARD
RULES. The town certainly had a multitude of joint facilities.
                                                                  Harry Bundy
