My signal is going back up!

Here's an update.

Yesterday, I went ahead and set the signal pole by myself. That was not such a big deal, but it was kind of awkward to handle. However, thanks to my 6 year old son Jonah, I was able to steady the pole while he installed the washers and nuts. The crew of the local came rolling by the house while I was in the midst of all this and looked at me like I was crazy. Boy, just wait till they see what's going to be ON this pole!

Now, I have to install the ladder and platforms. I have one problem that I'd like to run by you folks and see what you suggest. Where I used to live, I didn't have to worry about anyone climbing on the signal, but now I live in a subdivision with a lot of children around. What would you all suggest I do to make the ladder "kid proof"? I thought about cutting a piece of metal to fit in between the runners of the ladder and bolting it to it so the rungs they be covered, kind of like what Safetran uses on their signals. Does anyone have a better idea?

I appreciate your help and interest!

Thanks,
Ben Blevins

Hey folks,
Well, after nearly two years of having no signal in my yard, (because I moved), I'm happy to say that the pole is going back up this week! I have it scheduled for Thursday evening after work. The footer is poured, the concrete is almost cured, and I'm very excited about it! I've missed being able to set under the glow of a signal arm on a hot night, but now I will be able to do it, and smell the creosote and listen to the roar of a Diesel engine like I used to before. I plan to relight the arm on July 4th. Then, the second and third arms will be added soon after.
I'll post some photos of it as it comes along.
