Military Locos?

A usefulbook is 'United States Army Transportation Corps Locomotives, by R.
Touret. Many of the blocomotives of the 1940s went overseas, including to
Britain, from 1942 onwards. Some some were noted as being built for service in
the USA. and some photos in the book show engines at American locations in
Army livery. There wer over 2100 of the USA?TC S 160 2-8-0s many of which
travelled to Europe via the United Kingdom. I can remember meeting on neat
Stratford on Avon in 1942, and being curious how this obviously foreign engine
had got here. There wer other steam and diesel engines no doubt used in the
USA on military depots and around them.
