Y Class rebuilding possibility

Jimmy,

You are correct about cylinders having sleeves. On rare occasions the cylinder casting would crack and require replacement. The bar frames were more prone to crack due to the wear and tear of service, but sometimes the cylinder would crack, too, possibly because of being wrecked and just by being bolted to the frames. There were a lot of stresses from the high piston thrusts and reciprocating parts on the older Class Ys with a BP of 270.

Without taking the time to research the database, were not cylinder sleeves used negating the need for a complete cylinder casting?
