For all who are registered and will attend the event in mid April, here is
the schedule of activities. We are looking forward to seeing you Virginian
die-hards!

Schedule for Friends of Virginian at Milepost 2007
April 13-15

Friday: 2:00 pm: Registration opens at the restored Southern Station, 414
Washington St. (2 blocks (westward) off Main Street in Downtown Altavista.
View displays, picture contest entries and shop with vendors having Virginian
related items for sale.
3:30 pm: Local historian, Bob Carpenter to lead walk along old Southern
grade, which was moved in 1907 for the Tidewater to have a favorable grade,
to VGN right of way (present NS) and the Staunton River. Tour time is an hour
to hour and a half.
A Guide to Rail Fanning the Altavista Area will be available for full
registrants.
7:00 pm: Friday evening program, 1.) Welcome from Mayor; 2) "Modeling
the VGN in Modules;" 3.) VGN slide free-for-all or Vintage slides of the VGN,
concentrating on Roanoke to Victoria.
Saturday: 7:50 am Board bus at Holiday Inn Altavista for Victoria with
numerous stops along the railroad. Handouts for full registrants.
4:00 - 4:15 pm Return from Victoria
5:30 pm Southern Station opens for viewing displays and shopping w/
vendors
6:00 pm Dinner at Southern Station
7:00 pm Program by Harry Bundy, "Norfolk Division Remembered - VGN/N&W."
Sunday: 8:30 am Leave Holiday Inn for car caravan tour along VGN to
Roanoke.
Noon-ish: arrival in Roanoke.
Afternoon open for visits to Virginia Museum of Transportation, Link Museum,
and more.
