Thanks all for the suggestions. The Iron Horses In the
Valley by Hildebrand I have and it is the single most
suthoritative accounting I have ever seen for the
never completed B&O line south of Lexington. In
addition I have most of the National Archives
Valuation maps for the region as well, although they
lack reference details to anything other than streams
and roads; no houses, businesses or railroad crossings
are listed, until to you get to Salem proper.

Sometime, when the the leaves are down, I would like
to go exploring what it remaining along much of these
51.23 miles, some of which was gobbled up when I-81
was built, some which has been over-run by urban
sprawl of the Roanoke-Salem region, but I'd like to do
some weekend ... soon.

Anyone else interested? The Hildebrand book will serve
as an excellent guidepost for sure along with his maps
and my Val. maps as well.

Bob Cohen
