Nathan,

Your clip sounded great to me. Were you on a curve where you recorded that?
It sounded like it to me because of the flanges squealing against the rail.

something in it. also is the Volume good? It is a Clip of the NS

Well......... An one of those snotty audiophile types...........

Spatially, it's great with the birds and all, very clean recording.
Could use a little extra bottom end below 40Hz.
Was that someone sneezing 2 times in the beginning of the recording?

Nathan,
It sounds Great to me.....there was one little part though where the horn
was blowing....more than likely when it was right on top of ya....that the
horn was clipping my speakers and I have a powered surround sound system for
my PC.....but other than that it was awesome....and with the Surround I felt
like I was there.

Until Later,
Shawn

Again, Impressive!

I think that, in Blue Peter's case, they needed only the cylinder/ valve
block itself. I THINK that plate-frame locos don't have what we call
"cylinder saddles"; I think that the cylinders are bolted to the frame
plates. BP is a three cylinder loco, so I THINK that there are three
separate cylinder castings with the frame plates sandwiched between the
middle and the outside cylinder blocks.

I'm impressed!

I've heard of fixing cracks in large castings by "stitch welding", whatever
that is, but a cylinder casting is quite complex, with all the internal
passages, etc., that are probably inaccessible.

If you want to know how difficult a cylinder casting in the US today is,
then ask the Austin Steam Train Assoc. They had a new one cast for the SP
786. A crack was found and the engine taken out of service around 2000. The
Boiler is now at one shop and the frame/running gear at another. The current
time line has the boiler and frame being finished and returned to Austin for
completion of the rebuild in 2008. Running gear, wheels and cylinders will
all be practically new when she returns to service.
