Harry,

Crewe may not have been considered Y territory, but I know that doubleheaded westbound hopper trains with an A and a Y were a common site storming through Farmville in the 1950's. I assumed these were dispatched out of Crewe as doubleheaders rather than Norfolk and that the doubling was more to balance power than because the extra power was needed.

It's true, Crewe wasn't thought of as Y territory. But on
one occasion, I noted Crewe did furnish a Y for the Petersburg Turn.
