Delayed by a Landslide

A landslide occurred on the Norfolk and Western Railroad at about
12 o'clock Saturday night a short distance east of Montvale, and
resulted in delaying the passenger trains a good many hours. No. 1,
No. 15, and No. 41, due here early in the morning, did not arrive until noon.
The slide occurred in a cut on the new double track, and it was
about eight feet deep. A large force of men were put to work
shoveling out the loose dirt, but being in a cut, the task of
removing it, was necessarily a little slow.
Owing to the nature of the weather, the new track had been
carefully patrolled, and consequently the landslide was discovered
soon after it occurred, so that there was no danger at any time of
its causing an accident to a train.
