LINE IS COSTING TOO MUCH MONEY
------
Considerable Cession of work on N. & W. Extension from Naugatuck to Kenova -- An Ideal Road
-----
There has within the past few weeks been a considerable cessation of work upon the extension of the Norfolk and Western railroad down the valley of the Big Sandy from Naugatuck to Kenova. The forces of the contractors are still at work, but at the same time, no new laborers are being brought in from the east, and the forces are gradually being reduced.
It is probable that on this account the completion of this important line will be delayed for some time longer than has been expected.
Representatives of the contractors declare that the halt was called by the railroad company, who found that the line was costing too much money.
There is no intention to stop the work upon the road, but the forces will be decreased for a time, and work will progress more slowly until the company is ready to spend more money.
The line down the Big Sandy valley will without a doubt be the most complete and solid new line of railroad that has been constructed in this state, and there are few in this country which will surpass it.
An easy grade has been secured, curves as far as possible have been eliminated, the big road runs straight through the hills and bluffs along the Sandy, and in many cases passes through the sites of farm houses that have stood for half a century.
The roadbed is being made solid and substantial and every thing is of the very best that is used in railroad construction.
