What is a "partition coach"

The "partition coaches" may have been "Jim Crow" coaches from the era of
segregation. Whites rode on one end, blacks on the other. The last one I can
remember seeing in service was on an L&N/Seaboard passenger/mail/express train I
rode on from Flomaton, Ala. to Jacksonville, Fla. in late 1964 while in the Air
Force.
