MORE BUSINESS

Norfolk and Western Handled Three Times the Cars Last Week Than the Week Before

As an evidence of the improvement in railroad conditions in this
vicinity, it may be stated, that last week in one division of the
Norfolk & Western car service bureau, in which three thousand cars
are looked after and which has had a record during the recent slump
of from three thousand cars per day down to five hundred per day, the
number of cars handled in this division alone averaged fourteen
hundred a day. In other words, three time as much business was done
last week as has been done for several weeks previous.
Other sections of the car record office shows a like increase, and
this showing will be taken as a most encouraging indication of the
improvement of business conditions generally.
Where the road has been doing only about one fifth of its normal
business for the past month or two, the business has increased now to
one half of normal, and if this increases continues for the next
sixty days, every car of the Norfolk & Western railroad will be busy.
