Subject: Where is Jugneck?

Where is Jugneck?? I heard it is near Bluefield, but where exactly?

?Ben:
?Betcha the signal to be replaced is for the Blake
?cross-over, about a mile east of Jug Neck.?? There
?is a reverse curve (11 degrees each) at Jug Neck
?speed-boarded for 25 MPH.? No. 1 Eng 101 derailed
?there in 1918 -- thought to be?the result of the
?extra engineer?exceeding the posted speed.? There
?was a proverb on the Radford Division that if there
?was a "roll out" at East Yard in Bluefield,?wreck crews
?could ?go to Jug Neck and pick up the remains.??Dispite
?all?the safety precautions (derails, twenty five hand
?brakes tied on every cut of cars, etc) there was a
?"runaway" there in the late 60's.? Everyone rushed
?to Jug Neck to pick up the pieces, only to find the
?loaded coal cars had derailed, but the engines stayed
?on the track, pumped off the air brake, and were
?headed to Roanoke w/o an engineer.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Harry Bundy????
