The picture really brings back memories from when I was very young. I
remember my Dad taking me to see the steam engine loaded on a flat car.
I also recollect something about Gene Autry buying of selling it? We
were visiting my grandmother in the early/mid 1950's who lived in
Harrisonburg at the time. What was the date the picture was taken on?
When I saw the locomotive it must have been in Harrisonburg or Elkton?

I would guess, based upon this style of the number 12 on the cab, this
picture may have been taken when the engine was being shipped from the
defunct Shenandoah Central tourist line to it's new home in Blowing
Rock, NC. The picture on the Johnson's Depot site shows the engine as it
left Johnson City, TN for Virginia.

#12 still operates at the Tweetsie Theme Park which will shortly open
for its 51st season.

Gordon,

Thanks for the information. The picture on that website shows it loaded
on a different flat car. Interesting.
