Vladimir must own every book ever published on railroads in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.  Each week at church he gives me six or eight books and says, "You stud-ee.  Necht veek, vee geef you tesht !"   (Vlad did try his hand at railroading for a while, being a Conductor for da Hawss.  Not a good experience.  "Vlad go back and be electrician... Same money, less hours, no hafta verk for Magharatzskies!")
Amongst the reading required by Vlad today was an interesting book, "Alco Reference #1," by Bob Liljestrand  (Hanover, PA: The Railroad Press, 1998.)  The book consists almost entirely of photos taken by ALCO's photographers, steam and D-thingies alike.
Pages 76-79 show four images of N&W Eng 1011, which had been involved in the Montvale Wreck of 3-6-1965, all loaded up and awaiting rebuild at Schenectady.
Pages 74-75 give two views of Eng 386 (built March 1959,) with heavy wreck damage (cab demolished,) loaded up on a 12-wheel, 125-ton C&O heavy duty flat car and awaiting rebuild at Schenectady.  The author observes that the wreck must have happened when the engine was relatively new.    It's interesting to note that the road name "Norfolk & Western" has been meticulously painted out on the car body, as has the herald on what remains of the cab... No bad publicity, ya know !
Anyone know what awful fate befell the 386 to yield these results, and when and where...?
