Hello, Ned:

Around the turn of the century, the Post Office Department dropped apostrophes in order to standardize post office names.  It's likely that's when the change from Lambert's Point occurred.  The same order dropped the "h" from all "burghs," althought Pittsburg eventually got a Congressional exception and returned to being named Pittsburgh.
