N&W in 1908 -- Norton

Not sure when, but the L&N also went into Norton.
By my recollection, there is an overhead bridge at
the west end of the N&W yard which only spans
four or five tracks. Before the connection to
Southern's Appalachia Div. near Big Stone Gap
was built, L&N had trackage rights over N&W
Norton - St. Paul - (22 mi.) where the unit coal
trains went to Clinchfield. If the L&N crews had
less than 4 hours to work before expiring, N&W
would NOT allow them to proceed onto the
Pocahontas Divn.
