Thanks so much for this article, Brother! BEST, Lloyd Lewis.Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2009 09:57:48 To: nw-mailing-list at nwhs.orgSubject: "Roanoke Has New Coal Road" From: nw-mailing-list at nwhs.org Today I went to the Roanoke City Library and searched for the first Virginian Railway "through train to Roanoke". The January 24, 1909 "The Roanoke Times" front page has an article "Roanoke Has New Coal Road". This article indicated that the previous day, January 23, 1909, Roanoke saw "the first through train from Norfolk to the coal fields over the Virginian railroad reached the Magic City. The train had aboard General Manager Depuy and Chief Engineer Fernstorm. Soon after their arrival in the city the officials left for Deepwater, W. Va. It was stated that the last touches had just been given to the New River bridge the completion of which had been =======(word not readable) for many months."
