News of the Clinch

The Interstate railroad, a branch of the Southern system, still peeps over the hill at the west end of Norton with no visible prospects of the Norfolk and Western letting it come any nearer its depot if it can help it, and it looks like it is keeping it out pretty effectually.

[According to the Website, http://www.interstaterailroad.net/id1.html
the Interstate was originally under the control of Virginia Coal and Iron Company and did not become part of the Southern until Oct. 1960. Also, by a 1915 Official Guide, and almost certainly earlier, the Norton passenger depot was being used by N&W, L&N, Interstate, and Virginia and Kentucky, the latter running between Norton and Wise, VA.]
